IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you requested a mail ballot and you have not mailed it back, you can still post mark it by Election Day. You can also bring your completed ballot to any in-person voting location. If you requested a mail ballot and try to vote in-person, you will be given an affidavit ballot, so it is important that you use the one that was mailed to you.

  • You may apply for an absentee ballot in any of the following ways:

    . The letter must contain the following information:

    Name and date of birth of the voter

    the address where you are registered

    an address where the ballot is to be sent, and

    the reason for the request.

  • Orange County will have eight sites available for Early Voting and sites are open to all eligible enrolled voters throughout the County.

registration faqs

  • You must be a United States citizen and at least 18 years old. You may pre-register at 16 or 17 years old, but you won’t be able to vote until you are 18.

    You must also be a resident of New York, for at least 30 days before the election. If you are changing your registration to another address within New York, you must be a resident of your respective county, city or village for at least 20 days before the election. You must also not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

    You must not be in prison, on parole for a felony conviction, or be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court. This is unless your parolee status has been pardoned, or your citizenship rights have been restored.

  • Registering to vote is simple, fast, and easy. You can either register in-person, online, or via mail.

    In Person:

    In person, you can register at your County Board of Elections or at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center.

    You can also register at the Department of Motor Vehicles, either in person or on their web site if you already have DMV-issued identification.

    Online:

    If you have access to a NYS driver license, permit, or non-driver ID card, you can fill out a voter registration form online at the NYSDMV’s website.

    Mail:

    If you prefer to mail in your application, or if you do not have access to a NYS driver's license, permit, or non-driver ID card you should complete an application to register to vote and mail it to your County or City Board of Elections. For more information, and to gain access to these forms, please visit the Board of Elections website.

  • If you are registering in person, or online, you must register at least 25 days before Election Day.

    If you are voting by mail, you must have your application postmarked 25 days before Election Day, and it must be received 20 days before Election Day.

2024 GENERAL ELECTION DATES AND DEADLINES

Mail Registration

  • Applications must be received by a board of elections no later than October 26, 2024 to be eligible to vote in the General Election.

In Person Registration

  • You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the General Election, your application must be received no later than October 26, 2024.
